A Century Of Change

In 1904 George Gutchess founded the Gutchess Lumber Company on a small farm in New York State. Powered by a wood-fired steam tractor, the mill supplied lumber for the farm communities of New York State's Southern Tier. Oxen and horses were used as the muscle to skid logs to the mill and haul lumber to customers.

A lot has changed over the years. We have traded our horses for forklifts and now sell a wide range of products to a global market. George's great grandson and great great grandson are now active in the business, and an ownership stake is held by an employee stock ownership trust for the benefit of our workforce.

The future will bring more changes, but we will deliver the same consistently fine quality products, with the same superior customer service as always. That's our job.
