Where it Grows

Basswood grows predominately in the Northern and Great Lake States. We cut our Basswood in an environmentally sustainable manner primarily from the Northern Appalachian regions of New York and Pennsylvania.

Our modern manufacturing facilities are conveniently

located near our timberlands, interstate superhighways, rail networks and some of the
busiest seaports in the world—all of which allow us to offer our premium products at competitive prices (see Species Map).

Relative Working & Physical Properties

Basswood is light and soft with low strength properties and generally poor steam bending capabilities. It machines well and is especially easy to work with
using hand tools, making it a premier carving wood. Nailing, screwing and gluing are relatively easy to accomplish with this wood species. Basswood dries rapidly with little degrade and exhibits large shrinkage.
