The sapwood is a creamy yellow or white; the heartwood
is usually a dark brown, but often has green casts or even light
purple mineral stain. Our regional Yellow Poplar is a much
whiter product than stock found in the South.

Relative
Working & Physical Properties †
|
Yellow Poplar is a
light and soft hardwood. It machines
easily and accepts and holds fasteners well with pre-drilling.
Because of its low density Yellow Poplar has a tendency to fuzz
and tear, so sharp tools are necessary. Yellow Poplar takes
paint and stain especially well,
making it an economical choice for painted applications.
Common Uses
†
Light construction, furniture, cabinets,
mouldings, doors, paneling, edged-glue panels, plywood,
carvings and toys. |
