At Gutchess, we think the best way to make a quality product is to control every step. This is why we oversee tens of thousands of acres of prime timberland and seven facilities located across New York and Pennsylvania to produce Gutchess Lumber.

From timberlands to sawmills to dry kilns, from start to finish, we control the process to ensure our customers get the highest quality northern hardwood in the world.

Our Process

At Gutchess, we take great pride in producing premium products that exceed the expectations of demanding buyers worldwide.

Our products come from the best hardwood forests and timberlands in the northeast, several of which we have owned and managed ourselves for generations.

Every board we manufacture and sell is sawn in our modern band mills, dried in our state-of-the-art kilns, and inspected by highly skilled and well-trained lumber inspectors at least twice, green and dry, to ensure accurate grade and tally, consistent quality, and maximum yield. Every board we sell is from Gutchess, we do not broker or wholesale lumber.

Our Facilities

Headquartered in Cortland NY, Gutchess Lumber operates seven facilities across New York and Pennsylvania. We have four band mills producing over 100 million board feet of hardwoods annually. Our manufacturing facilities include over 5 million board feet (11,750 m3) of computer-controlled dry kiln capacity, as well as over one million board feet (2,350 m3) of pre-drier capacity, and more than 15 acres of roofed dry storage.

In addition, Gutchess Lumber owns and oversees over 29,000 acres of timberland in New York and Pennsylvania. These company lands, located in prime forest areas, are carefully and closely managed by our team of skilled and experienced foresters. We selectively harvest our lands in 15 and 30-year cycles to ensure a steady and continuous supply of healthy, quality timber.
